At Isabel Hospice we care for people across Eastern Hertfordshire, who suffer from life-limiting illnesses, such as cancer and who are in the terminal stage. Our ethos is to treat the whole person, not simply their illness, and to maximise the quality of life that they have in their remaining months and weeks. Last year we cared for over 2,700 patients, family members and carers, free of charge. Our care is often described as a light in the tunnel at a very dark time. To give this free care, we need to raise over £4 million each year. Of this total, £2.7 million must be raised from charitable sources. Every penny really does count. Sarah and Andrea Borneo Challenge 2010
On the 18th September 2010 we're travelling to Borneo in aid of Isabel Hospice. Some of you may know this is in memory of Shirley "Ruby" Huttlestone who sadly passed away in October last year. We'll be part of a team of other Isabel Hospice volunteers spending 11 days taking part in the Borneo Challenge, which includes trekking through primary & secondary jungle and a further two days assisting on a community development project. Isabel Hospice is a local charity who give such amazing support and care. They made it possible that throughout the last few weeks of Shirley's illness she was comfortable in an environment with fantastic nurses, doctors & staff. To continue giving this care to patients across eastern Hertfordshire Isabel Hospice heavily rely on donations made to them. The 2010 Jungle calendar went on sale at the end of last year as a start to fundraising, featuring familiar faces from Swift Horsman, who kindly agreed to appear. Hope your all enjoying the pics! Thanks to everyone who came along to the Borneo Quiz evening. We raised just over £300.00! Congratulations to the Winning MG-Mingers, Team Excellent who were a close second place and the jungle dummies the Orang U tans in last place! Thanks also to Chris Martin who bravely waxed his chest for the Hospice!
