The Sick Children's Trust
The Sick Children's Trust provides 'Home from Home' accommodation for the families of sick children whilst they receive vital medical treatment in hospital often far from home. Families are able to stay together close to their child and offer each other essential support during a difficult and distressing time.

Update: We did it, 1564 miles and no permanent damage to man or car.  Great fun for a great cause .... huge thanks to everyone who has supported us. See the video link below to see how we got on.

In 2005 Finn Blazer (Kevin's son) at 6 weeks old was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive children’s cancer.  He required specialist treatment only available in Cambridge, 70 miles from our home.  Needless to say this was a highly distressing time for his family, and it would’ve been even more stressful if it wasn’t for The Sick Children’s Trust.

We're not sure how much you know about The Sick Children's Trust, but they believe that no child should be separated from their family while in hospital receiving treatment for serious illnesses.  They work tirelessly to allow the most basic of principles to work; family, love and support.  Their purpose is to provide quality accommodation within the grounds or locale of the treating hospital, providing genuine 'Home from Home' accommodation for families whose children are receiving acute and life-saving medical treatment.  The Blazers stayed in one of these homes, Acorn House in Cambridge, for nearly two months whilst Finn underwent chemotherapy, surgery and rehabilitation.

We're glad to say that Finn is now in full remission and a happy and healthy 5 year old.

As part of giving a little back to this invaluable charity, this year we (Jem, Kevin, Nigel and Paul) are attempting to drive from the UK to Rimini in northern Italy - as part of the Scally Rally, in a car that has to be purchased for less than £100.  In total approximately 1,130 miles including a route through the Alps and some scary hairpin corners, so no mean feat.  And by doing so we hope to raise money for this great charity.  It would be fantastic if you could help us with this challenge.

No money in the world could’ve bought a bed within the grounds of Addenbrookes Hospital, two minutes from Paedatric Intensive Care and with a direct line through to the acute nursing staff.  But charity, in the guise of The Sick Children’s Trust, did exactly that for the Blazer family.  We are indebted to them for providing that facility, and we would be indebted to you if you can help us raise as much money as we possibly can.

Thanks, Scally Rally Europe, Team 777
