Huntingtons Disease Association
The Huntington's Disease Association exists to support people affected by the disease and to provide information and advice to professionals whose task it is to support Huntington's disease families. We operate a Regional Care Advisory Service which consists of a team of Regional Care Advisers who provide information and advice to families, answer crises calls and liaise with other professional service providers, promote and develop a full range of local services, identify suitable respite and residential care facilities, liaise with local branches and self-help groups, give talks and organise seminars and training days provide speakers for training sessions, provide workshops for service providers and users such as health, social services, nursing homes, and residential care staff teams.

Shane and Rochelle's fundraising page

My page:

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Rochelle’s mum has recently been diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, which is an inherited disorder that causes the breakdown of nerve cells in the brain, and impacts a person’s functional abilities, including movement, thinking and psychiatric disorders.  It is sometimes thought of like a combination of Alzheimer's, Parkinson’s and Schizophrenia.

After the diagnosis we contacted the Huntington's Disease Association for some advice and support.  We discovered that there are between 6,000 and 10,000 people in the UK who have HD and only 23 Specialist HD Advisors across England and Wales. We met with our local Specialist HD Advisor who helped us enormously in giving us information about the disease and about what support they can offer us.  This charity will play a very important part in our lives now for the forseeable future.  There is a 50 / 50 chance that this disease has been passed on to Rochelle and her younger brother.

Rochelle and Shane have run the London marathon for the last two years, but never before to raise money for a charity.  This year we decided that we would raise money for the Huntington's Disease Association, not only to give something back for the help we have had so far and will receive from them in the future, but also to raise awareness about this disease.

We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.  Please remember, every penny counts!  Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities.  Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
