Charity
We are a group of entrepreneurs who care about making technology and microfinance loans available to people in slums and villages in India so that they can build up their businesses. We believe in social entrepreneurship which is why we act as a not for profit but the recipients of our loans pay a small interest rate to access micro loans. The interest is used to employ local entrepreneurs to administer the costs of running our grass roots enterprise. Once loans are paid back, they are recycled again into 2nd, 3rd and 4th loans deeper in the communities thereby allowing businesses to really grow. At some stage, the entrepreneurs will be well established and own enough collateral to open their own bank account and benefit from various banking facilities. Mentoring and training is an important part of our offering so that entrepreneurs can gain from each other and that means we can all learn from each other regardless of geography and social standing. Our reach is to both men and women (often families) and we are proud to include all religions and cultures. We do not discriminate against any caste or level of community. In fact we believe we are all one from the slum dwellers to the micro loans entrepreneur team

Shanti Microfinance's fundraising page
Hello! Namaste!
We've had an exciting few months of fundraising and thanks to those of you who have already donated.
All funds go to provide microfinance loans, training, mentoring and in some cases health care all with the goal of promoting small businesses so that communities can be alleviated out of poverty. Ideally, we want to get recipients out of the loan cycle and into the regular economy.
Specifically we work with rickshaw wallahs, seamstresses, artisans and women farmers to construct eco-sanitation toilets.
For 300 GBP you can either: a) help one farmer to develop raw materials into textiles which he/she can sell b) help one rickshaw wallah to put a down payment on his vehicle and support his whole family or c) provide supplies for women farmers to build their own eco-sanitation toilets.I am personally looking to fundraise £20K to help our friends in Gujarat - to do so I will be having a few events and lots of campaigns all feeding into our main online donation link to the right side of the page. Thanks so far to Hypergallery, Peter Gabriel, Home House, Icone, 28-50, CateringTemps, Frae Organic Frozen Yogurt and Texture for their support!
Shanti Microfinance gives small loans to slum and village entrepreneurs in India and when those loans are repaid they recycle the funds back into the community for further loans - so its a gift that keeps on giving. The charity really cares about grass roots work and creating a social impact in order to alleviate communities out of poverty.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
Thanks! Sheetal Mehta-Walsh
