Charity

Anthony Nolan
Someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer such as leukaemia every 23 minutes. A blood stem cell (or bone marrow) transplant is often the only cure. Currently Anthony Nolan is only able to provide a matching donor for half the people that come to us in need of a lifesaving transplant. With your help we can grow our register of remarkable people willing to donate their stem cells, facilitate more transplants and save more lives. It costs £100 to recruit, tissue type and maintain just one potential donor to our register. Your donations will help fund our lifesaving work. Please visit www.anthonynolan.org for more information or email events@anthonynolan.org if you'd like to get more involved.

WE DID IT! WE ACTUALLY DID IT! WE COMPLETED THE LONDON MARATHON! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED US THROUGH THIS EPIC CHALLENGE

Thanks for having a little look at my fundraising page, I can already tell you're a pretty great human being, if you wouldn't mind reading on just a little bit further I can tell you all about what I'm doing and the amazing charity I'm doing it for (I promise it won't go on too long, and if you manage it to the end there's a little kiss waiting for you)

2012 is a special year for the Marney family, June 7th marked 5 years since my Dad, Chris, sadly passed away and April 1st would have been his 60th birthday. This year more than ever I want to honour my Dad's memory by raising money for a great cause and sticking a big middle finger up to cancer!

I will be running 5 races over a year (each more challenging than the last!) and raising money for Anthony Nolan. And, to further add to the challenge, I will be running the only way my Dad would have wanted, listening to The Best of Meatloaf on loop. That's some motivating stuff. My good friend Alex "Marshkins" Marsh will be joining me on this epic journey and running the same races as me, what a great guy, if you see him give him a big hug.

I started with the Bupa 10,000 on a very hot May day in central London (1hr13), on a rainy June day I completed the British 10k (1hr5), the hilly Ealing Half Marathon (2hr33), the Silverstone Half Marathon (2hr24) and finished on 21st April 2013 with the one and only Virgin London Marathon! (5hr32) For the Ealing Half we were joined by Sam "Paxo" Paxman, Laura "Jack" Daniel and Yanik "The Beast" Joshi who kindly offered to help out with our fundraising. What a fantastic bunch of people, attractive AND generous.

So, a bit more about the charity I'm willing to run over 60 miles for... Anthony Nolan is a pioneering charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer who need a blood stem cell, or bone marrow transplant. Every day, they help two people in need of a lifesaving transplant by using their register to find remarkable donors who have matching stem cells, or bone marrow. It costs about £100 to recruit and maintain each person on the register so if we reach our target of £5000 that's 50 more people on the register that could potentially save 50 lives. Pretty great eh?

I'm not just fundraising, I am raising awareness for a fantastic cause. Currently, Anthony Nolan is only able to provide a matching donor for half the people that need one, the more people on the register, the more lives are saved, simple. I know that there's not a lot of spare cash around at the moment, so if you can't afford to sponsor me then I understand, but can you please just do one thing for me? Click on this link and see if it's something you want to do, it could be the best thing you've ever done. http://www.anthonynolan.org/register

I'm going to be keeping everyone informed of my progress through Twitter and Facebook, so if you're interested in seeing how I'm getting on (and occassionally what I've had for dinner) then follow me @ShowMeTheMarney and feel free to send me motivating tweets!

Thank you so much for getting this far, you rock!

Laura xx (one more than promised!)
