Hi, thanks for visiting my page. I am aiming to raise a great deal of money to support the work of Mind, the charity that I am supporting whilst I attempt to complete a solo row across the Atlantic.

Set up in 1946 as the National Association for Mental Health, Mind is a charity that campaigns to improve the conditions, policy and attitudes towards mental illnesses in this country. They are determined to improve society’s recognition, understanding and acceptance of people who experience mental stress. It is a problem that many people face at some point in their lives and continues to be very under-funded, misunderstood and poorly accepted within our society. The focus for this row is to change people’s perceptions of mental health and bring them into the 21st Century, along with raising money to enhance research and support for these very complicated problems that people face on a daily basis without the necessary assitance they require.

The charity looks to support people through information, support and group therapy. The main problem is that people are unwilling to talk about their experiences as the perception of mental illness with society is very dated. I believe it is these barriers that need to be broken down to develop a greater acceptance that is required in society.

Having been able to witness how much the work of charities like Mind is required, I am really excited to be able to create more of an awareness about mental health in our society through challenging myself to this row.

I really do thank every single person who is able to donate whatever amount to this cause. It really will make a difference. Please follow my progress at www.soloatlanticrow2011.co.uk
