2012 Virgin London Marathon

The Virgin London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall.

Hi everyone,

So for some reason I've signed up to do the London Marathon in April. Now I know what you're thinking, training for a Marathon is generally quite a good thing, so why should I give you money for it? (Even if it is for a charity, I think there needs to be some more justification.)

My take on this is that you are donating either out of the goodness of your heart, or to put me through pain. You can be assured that I've already had blisters from training, and many aches and pains. To make it even a sweeter deal, I'll be running a minimum of 4 hours per week from this moment on. Not to mention that the marathon itself is a going to be an ordeal, regardless of the preperation that I have done. So why not donate a pound for every mile (£26 please) or for those who rightly prefer metric, per km (£42 please).
