Charity

RNLI
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the charity that saves lives at sea. The RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews rescue an average of 23 people a day around the coasts and waterways of the UK and the Republic of Ireland. From 235 lifeboat stations, they are well trained and equipped to put to sea in the most fearsome conditions when the call comes. RNLI lifeguards patrol more than 200 beaches in the UK. As well as rescuing people from the water, they are also on hand for first aid and safety advice, making sure everyone can make the most of their day at the beach. Are you passionate about the water? Do you want to be part of a lifesaving team? Whatever the reason for your interest in our work, we’d love to have you onboard. The RNLI is an independent charity and receives no government funding. We rely on public support.

The REDCAP 2012 CHARITY CHALLENGE

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

So now to tell you about our challenge

SIX SWIMMERS, SIX HOURS, ONE TIDE

During August 2012, 6 swimmers, all members of The Chalkwell Redcap Open Water Swimming Club will take on the challenge of swimming from The Crowstone at Chalkwell Beach to Southend Pier - and back again - THREE TIMES OVER.  This equates to approximately 15 kilometers.  They only have ONE TIDE, so approximately 6 HOURS in which to complete the challenge.

13 swimmers have been training their butts off for the past year building up their distance ability and as the date approaches, only the toughest will be chosen to attempt this challenge.  Any swimmers getting caught up in the tidal conditions and unable to complete the distance in time, may well find themselves struggling to walk back home across the mud flats.  A huge support team of volunteers will be on hand to ensure the utmost safety for each swimmer and various swimmers will be able to swim alongside the challengers for parts of the challenge to keep them company.  The support team will be on hand to wade out to the swimmers to provide jelly beans, bananas and glucose fluids.

On behalf of The Chalkwell Redcap Open Water Swimming Club, we would like to thank you for your donation.  Please do follow our diary, click on the link below where you can follow all the individual stories of all those involved in this huge challenge.
