Charity
Joshua Orphan and Community Care is a Malawi-based charity for orphan care working in nineteen isolated rural communities around Blantyre. We support community-driven sustainable development projects to assist HIV/AIDS orphans, vulnerable children, and their families in Malawi. With its close ties to the communities and support from donors, Joshua has constructed 17 feeding centres, a secondary school, 4 classroom blocks, drilled bore holes and sponsors over 120 youngsters in education. Its staff live and work in Malawi and take great pride in working closely with local people and organisations. Joshua Orphan and Community Care is supported by a board of trustees based in the UK.

Tamsin's fundraising for Joshua Orphan Care
Hi,
I am running the Stockholm half marathon; a) because I wanted to go to Stockholm, b) I'm turning 40 (far too soon), and c) I can hopefully now get fit and stay fit without any more children getting in the way! As such, the basic motivations are completely selfish, and I've covered all the costs myself.
However, I have also decided to use the event to raise what I can to cover the cost of seeing one child through secondary school in Malawi (£480.00 for 4 years plus 2% admin fee for the charity, which is pretty minimal). Joshua Orphan and Community Care have set up a school for orphaned and vulnerable children in a poor rural district outside Blantrye, which offers an opportunity for at least some individuals to potentially break what is a brutal cycle of poverty.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me (now i just have to try and run the race!) and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
Please do NOT feel compelled to sponsor me, but for those who do, many many thanks, and I will try and do it justice (I'm afraid I haven't got a time target, simply a survive it target). Regardless, thank you for reading this, and I hope you agree that the picture in the corner is a far better likeness than any photo I could have found!
