Prostate Cancer UK
Prostate Cancer UK fights to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. We support men and provide vital information. We find answers by funding research into causes and treatments. And we lead change, raising the profile of the disease and improving care. We believe that men deserve better.
Partners For Change Ethiopia
Partners for Change empowers the poorest communities in Ethiopia to end child poverty. Set up during the famine of 1984 / 5 it set up orphanages to look after over a thousand orphan children. Since then it has helped over a million of the poorest Ethiopians to make a better future for their children.

Team Cookham - London to Cardiff 2017

On the 9th and 10th of June a team of 12 intrepid runners from Cookham Running Club will be taking part in a relay from London to Cardiff. We will be running through the night along fields, paths, roads and canals paths to cover the gruelling 160 miles (260 km). It is the UK's longest point to point non-stop relay on foot.

Armed with just a map and a compass we will heading west from Twickenham, up the Thames Valley, across the Chilterns, the North Wessex Downs, over the Severn Bridge before working our way across South Wales to the centre of Cardiff. It promises to be the ultimate endurance test.

We are doing this to raise money for two great charities, which are transforming people's lives in quite different ways and in different parts of the world:

- Partners for Change Ethiopia, a charity that has been helping children in poor communities in Ethiopia (www.pfcethiopia.org) since the mid 1980s. One of our members, Sarah Parfitt, is an Ambassador for the charity and has set up a link between Holy Trinity School in Cookham and Gende Tesfa School in eastern Ethiopia. As well as funding breakfast for the most needy children at the school, we are hoping to raise money for small business training for the mums who have children at the Breakfast Club.

Through its #woman2woman2017 campaign, PFC Ethiopia aims is to bring about sustainable change in Gende Tesfa, where nearly every family has been affected by leprosy.

- Prostate Cancer UK, a charity that is working to battle prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men.  This year 44,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and nearly 11,000 will die from it. Two of our club members have recently survived tough battles with the disease. Prostate Cancer UK is working to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention to help stop prostate cancer.

Please give genorously, and remember to give use gift-aid so that the charities can reclaim the tax that you have paid on your donation.
