Team Lardy Boy are a group of drinkers with a cycling problem! This year four of them are taking on the Land's End to John O'Groats Cycle Challenge (End2End) and hoping to raise plenty of money for charity in the process. You can follow their progress here.

Setting off on 13th May 2012 Paddy Connaghan, Garry Dutton, Garry Jones and Rick Warbuton will be cycling upto 100 miles a day and have given themselves 2 weeks to complete the trip.

The charities they have chosen to support are very close to their hearts.

Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity and

The Firefighter's Charity

In April 2011 Paddy's 10 year old daughter Kitty became suddenly and critically unwell. She spent a week in intensive care and her life was saved by the doctors and nurses at The Royal Manchester Childrens' Hospital. You can see her full story here. A year on, and as a thank you for her amazing recovery, 75% of all monies raised will be going to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity and will be split 3 ways to support the areas that were so important to Kitty's treatment and recovery.

25% will go to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) which through it's 17 beds provides care for critically ill children and their families. It is a leading centre in the North West.A wide range of specialist teams- including neurosurgery, oncology, cardiology, respiratory, physiotherapy and pharmacy-work with the multidisciplinary PICU team to deliver paediatric intensive care to children, age 0-16, from across the region.

25% will go to Ward 79 (Gastroenterology) which cares for children and young people who need medical and surgical investigations and treatment for a number of underlying conditions including short gut syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure, liver disease and malignant tumour surgery. Many of these conditions mean children have to stay in hospital for long periods of time and some of the work of the ward is to equip parents with the skills they need to take their children home.

The final 25% of the money raised will go to the Therepeutic and Specialised Play Department at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. The team at the hospital do an amazing job at lifting children's spirits and putting a smile on their faces. Laughter really is the best therapy and the team rely heavily on charity donations to support their work.Therapeutic play has an important role in helping a child to adjust to the hospital experience and helping their recovery.

As 3 members of the team are firefighters the final 25% of all monies raised will go to a charity which is close to their hearts. The Fire Fighters Charity exists to help members of the fire and rescue services who put their lives on the line every day to save others, whilst providing support to their families.
