Orbis is dedicated to preserving and restoring the sight of the poorest people in the poorest communities across the world. Through innovative programmes and partnerships, Orbis creates long-term, lasting solutions to prevent and cure blindness worldwide. We provide the tools, training and technology for local doctors and health care professionals to develop solutions to tackle avoidable blindness in their own countries. By building long-term capabilities in eye care institutions, Orbis supports its partners in providing quality eye care services that are affordable, accessible and ultimately sustainable.

London Marathon 2012

Raising money for ORBIS

Many, many thanks for all your messages of support and for all your kind and generous donations! And many thanks for the tremendous support from my family who were able to come and watch the marathon and the fantastic support from everyone at ORBIS, especially Hannah. I exceeded my target of £2000, so many thanks for helping to make that happen. AND I beat my target time of 4 h 30 min: the official time was 4 h 27 min 39 sec! So very pleased with that!

It's still not too late to donate: and here's the reason I ran for ORBIS:

According to the World Health Organization, 39 million people worldwide are blind — yet 80 percent suffer needlessly. Their blindness could have been prevented or treated. 90 percent of the blind live in the developing world.

ORBIS is a nonprofit organization fighting blindness in developing countries, ORBIS establishes comprehensive, affordable and sustainable eye care with its local partners in developing countries. ORBIS provides training opportunities through its Flying Eye Hospital, hospital-based programs and fellowships, and Cyber-Sight® — a unique telemedicine program offering online consultation and education.

Since its first program in 1982, the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital has traveled to more than 85 countries and saved the sight of millions of people.

Together, we can eliminate blindness and transform lives.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

Many thanks again for all your support!
