Salisbury Hospicecare Trust - The Salisbury Hospice provides Specialist Palliative Care Services in the Salisbury and the surrounding Wiltshire area. People who benefit from Salisbury Hospice are those faced with a progressive life limiting disease, the majority of whom will have cancer. At any one time there are over 180 patients in our care. All services are free of charge. Salisbury Hospicecare Trust is committed to raising £1 million each year to maintain and develop the work of the Hospice and Specialist Palliative Care Services. The Hospice is situated on the southern boundary of the Salisbury District Hospital. The Hospice Inpatient Unit has 10 beds in regular use. The Palliative Care at Home Services provides care for our patients. A team of five Community Nurses visit patients in their homes throughout the Salisbury area. The Hospital Palliative Care Team visit patients in local Hospitals. The Peter Gillam Support Centre provides activities and care for out-patients and their carers. A Family Support Team and voluntary counsellors provide Bereavement support. The Medical and Nursing staff have received recognition for their work in the field of Palliative Care and play an active role in providing training in such skills. There is a volunteer team of over 100 local people who support the work of the professional medical staff in a variety of ways. Our fundrasing team is constantly working to raise money to maintain and develop the work of the Hospice.

2012 Virgin London Marathon

The Virgin London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall.

 I am Tracy Platt,I am 49 and I wanted to challenge myself to do something good for my fitness and also to raise money for the Salisbury Hospice....before I am 50 (May 2012!!!)

I have only ever ran in 5k,10K and a 10 mile race.....so far........I am training carefully??!! and slowly building up the "miles"....I reached 15 miles this Sunday(in 1 session) and am feeling very proud,but theres a long way to go yet....and only 12 weeks to go....today I have entered to run in a Half Marathon with my brother Stephen and friend Kim,who have done the London Marathon a few times, its on 1st April.....no fools????despite the date! :) PLEASE PLEASE SPONSER ME......its all going to support a WONDERFUL CHARITY......trust me I will only ever be running in ONE MARATHON and where better than in LONDON....in 2012...a super year for it, whoop whoop :O)) x ......PS I work part time in White Stuff Shop, and this fab company will match any money raised...up to £1000......so COME ON,you know that you want to,its RUDE not to??!!........DIG DEEP into your bank accounts P L E A S E.........many many THANX xxx :)
