My page:

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

I manage the IT and the London office premises for a Humanitarian Disaster Relief Charity called RedR

I had visited Japan several times and when in 2011 just as I was about to visit again the March earthquake and tsunami disaster happened

RedR went on standby to deploy to Japan and I was considered as the Country Director should such a deployment go ahead. In the event RedR decided not to deploy though in the meantime one of RedR’s members Eric Ouannes, the Director General of Medecins Sans Frontieres Japan, deployed a team into the disaster zone. Here is the interview I did with him on a post disaster visit to Japan

At the same time I became involved as an online volunteer in my free time translating for non-Japanese speaking rescue teams SMS text messages sent by people trapped by the disaster one of whom was man who was trapped between two partially collapsed floors of a multi storey car park – I doubt I will ever know if he survived

I subsequently decided to walk along a 126km section of the Nakansendo, from Mitake to Karuizawa and thought it would be good to combine my love and exploration of Japan and things Japanese with a way of fundraising for RedR and at the same time contributing to and promoting the links between Japan and Britain by walking a stunningly beautiful and relatively unknown part of Japan - at least for foreigners. This is epecially important this year, which in Britain we are celebrating as the 400th anniversary of Japanese-British relations, information about which can be obtained at

I will be blogging the walk on a day by day basis, while I am walking, on the online magazine that I write for called Diverse Japan

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
