I'm fundraising in memory of Lukas Proud

During my first pregnancy in 2010 I met Katy Proud.  With our due dates just days apart we became friends, experiencing the joys of pregnancy and then life with a newborn and toddler together.

With their birthdays just 2 days apart, my son Benjamin and Katy's son Lukas became firm friends sharing a love of cars and Thomas the Tank Engine.

On 27th March 2013, after only a few days of mild symptoms, Doctors at Bolton Hospital diagnosed Lukas with a brain tumour. Lukas was transferred to Manchester where the tumour was confirmed as medulloblastoma - an aggressive malignant cancer.

Lukas faced surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy over a gruelling summer for him. But he faced it with strength, courage, smiles and spirit.

Lukas lost his brave fight on the 12th October 2013.

Andrew Proud,

[i]“In March 2013, our two and a half year old son, Lukas, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma – a malignant brain tumour.

Along with Lukas’ 10 week old sister, Violet, we soon found ourselves facing a lengthy stay at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Hospital days can be long and hard, and it sometimes seems like there is no end in sight.

Ronald McDonald House changed that for us and our wider family and friends.

From Lukas’ first visit, he was made to feel special and he loved to play there with his friends.

Lukas lost his brave fight in October 2013 but has left a legacy within the House by his sponsorship of “The Railway” room. We are eternally thankful for what Ronald McDonald House provided us and the inspiration it has given us to support others through Lukas’ memory.”

What am I doing?

I ask myself this every day when I drag myself out training!

I have chosen to run the London Marathon 2017.  On 23rd April I'll be running/walking/dragging myself round the 26.2 mile course in London.

I am not a natural runner hindered by the fact i'm severaly visually impaired but i'm inspired by Katy and Andrew's strength and want to support the continued sponsorship of 'The Railway' room as much as I can.

Your kind donation

Ronald McDonald House Manchester provides a home away from home for sick children and their families whilst they undergo treatment.

Donations make a great difference to the RMHC charity and helps families stay close to their children at difficult times.

I, on behalf of Team Lukas, really do need your support and any donation to the cause will be graciously

Thank you for your support.
