Survival for children with cancer and leukaemia has improved from 10% in 1970 to around 75%. The clinical trials and laboratory research conducted by members of Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) has been a major factor in this. The CCLG is the only charity dedicated to supporting the work of those looking after children and teenagers with these life-threatening illnesses. The Group is committed to research and development in the treatment of cancer in these age groups. But although childhood cancer treatment is, rightly regarded as a great success, it should not be forgotten that still today three out of ten children diagnosed with cancer will not survive their disease. The ultimate aim of CCLG is to maximise cure while minimising the early and late side effects of treatment. Information for families of children with cancer is an important issue and to help support both the children and their families we produce a wide range of award winning publications which are available free of charge. Caring for children and curing their cancer remains our goal.

I've finally got round to committing myself to a new fitness challenge, 7 months after the birth of my beautiful son Ethan. Although I'm sure you other mum's and dad's out there know that the early days with a new born is really a physical and mental challenge in itself !!!! When deciding what type of fitness challenge to set myself, what better than a half marathon when I've had no exercise for a year and a half and only 6 weeks to train as the race is on the 11th of March.
The next step was deciding on a charity to run for. After looking into the many charities out there I came across Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group. As soon as I started reading about all the fantastic work they do to help maximise cure and also to try and reduce the late and early side effects of treatment in young children, I knew instantly this was the the charity i'd be running 13 miles for.
As a new mum I really couldn't imagine the heartbreak of finding out the diagnosis of cancer in my child and I'm sure that the support and care that CCLG offers gives many families hope and strength to battle on during this traumatic time.
I really appreciate all your support and I will be updating my page with progress of my journey to what currently feel's like the impossible.

6th Feb- Week Two
You will be pleased to hear training has been resumed : ) Not to the extent that I'm running in the snow however I did manage a 10k run at the gym. Purchase of the week ankle support and copy of women's running lol need to stop buying running magazines, gives me an urge to buy gadgets and gizmos like bum bags for running, not cool and totally unnecessary !!!!!
1st Feb - week one of training
OK, so there has been a minor set back on the training front due to a ankle sprain, foot up and frozen peas to the rescue. Hope to have the running shoes on again soon!!!!!
