Imagine a ship staffed by surgeons, doctors, nurses, water engineers and other specialists. Now imagine their services offered free of charge to the world’s poorest people. Mercy Ships is an international charity that provides free medical care, relief aid, and community development in some of the world’s most poverty stricken countries, via its hospital ship the Africa Mercy and a number of land-based projects. Over the last 30 years, Mercy Ships has visited 70 countries providing free medical and humanitarian services valued at more than £530 million. Mercy Ships has treated more than 420,000 people in village medical clinics, performed more than 47,000 life-changing surgeries, 228,000 dental treatments and completed over 1000 community development projects focusing on water and sanitation, education, infrastructure development and agriculture. Every penny raised really will help transform lives. For example: £15 helps provide a pack of 50 bandages for patients in need. £30 helps deliver a dental treatment for someone without access to care. £50 helps provide an orthopaedic surgery for a child who cannot walk properly. A Maggie’s Centre is a place to turn to for help with any of the problems, small or large, associated with cancer. Maggie's is an innovative cancer charity providing a programme of practical, emotional and psychological support that empowers people with what they need to live with, through and beyond cancer.

Since 2002 the Advocacy has helped people with neuroacanthocytosis and their families share information about this movement disorder disease that often devastates the lives of young adults. With donations from friends of patients including several foundations and charitable trusts, we finance research and education of the doctors and scientists who are working to understand and eventually find a way to alleviate the disease. Seed money we supplied started research that made possible a grant of Euros 650,000 from E-RARE, an initiative of the European Union.
Shooting Star CHASE is the children's hospice service, supporting local families with a child or teenager not expected to reach their 19th birthday. Shooting Star CHASE currently helps over 500 families living in western London, Surrey and West Sussex. We are committed to caring for these families. We are here for every step of their journey, sharing the good times, and helping them through the tough times with practical, nursing and emotional support. Families receive our support free of charge, 365 days a year, in their own homes and communities and at our children’s hospices. On 22nd April 2012 Kelly from the Virgin Limited Edition London office, Jamie, Anne-Marie and David from The Roof Gardens and Hayley from The Lodge will be running the Virgin London Marathon for their individually chosen charities and need all the donations they can get!
