Charity
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Over half of all cancer research in the UK is carried out by our scientists. We have discovered new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer that together have saved millions of lives across the world. We have been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates double in the last thirty years. But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives. Our groundbreaking work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.

Your Golf Travel Walks for Seve!
We a team at Your Golf Travel, including Founders Ross Marshall and Andrew Harding, have set ourselves the demanding challenge of walking over 300 miles from London to Royal Lytham & St Annes, the home of this year’s Open Championship to raise money for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation part of Cancer Research UK. It was at Royal Lytham & St Annes that Seve Ballesteros played some of his most famous shots, winning the Open twice in 1979 and 1988 and in between at St Andrews in 1984!
The walk starts at Cancer Research UK's offices on Tuesday the 10th July and will finish 7 days later at Royal Lytham & St Annes on Tuesday 17th.
Along the way, we will be carrying our golf bags and clubs, to hit balls from the 1st Tee of every venue we visit, in memory of the great man and also to promote the launch of our inaugural tournament called Seve Day.
Please see our itinerary below:
Day 1 - London to Wentworth Golf Club. Overnight at Stoke Park GC.
Day 2 - Wentworth Golf Club to Oxfordshire. Overnight at Bicester GC
Day 3 - Oxfordshire to Banbury. Overnight at Hellidon Lakes
Day 4 - Banbury to The Belfry Golf Club, Bedworth
Day 5 - The Belfry, Bedworth to Great Haywood. Overnight at Hill Valley
Day 6 - Great Haywood to Warrington.
Day 7 - Warrington to Royal Lytham & St Annes
Seve was best known for his dazzling short game, but loved for his unpredictable driving of the golf ball. He was and still is regarded as the greatest Spanish Golfer of all time, and will never be forgotten for his style and grace on the Green.
Due to back related injuries he struggled with his form during the 1990's but in spite of this he continued to be involved in the game, creating the Seve Trophy. He retired from golf in 2007 and was later diagnosed with Brain Cancer.
He endured his tumour and cancer treatment until 2011, when he sadly lost his final battle on 7th May 2011. Many people and their families are effected by Cancer, we hope that by supporting and raising awareness, together with as much money as possible with events like the Seve Walk and Seve Day Tournament, we can help their research and make a difference.
Not only was Seve a Golfer whom is sadly missed and highly regarded by all our staff at Your Golf Travel, but on a more personal level for Ross Marshall our Co-Founder he too also sadly lost his aunt to Cancer the same month as Seve did, making this challange all the more meaningful to he and his family.
Seve left the game of golf a legacy. He famously said ‘'2 nd nobody remembers, you have to be the champion, in my mind I always trained, I always dreamed and always visualised myself to be a champion. It never crossed my mind to finish 2 nd.’' This is a quote no doubt the team will reflect on during the challenge ahead, through some of the hardest times.
Please show your support today by making a donation and join in helping us against the fight for Brain Cancer.
Let us know if you want to join the walk at any point, you can do a few hours, a morning or a whole day if you wish! For a route plan and mapping of each day - please email emmac@yourgolftravel.com
