Charities

Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We’ve saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and survival has doubled over the past 40 years. We fund research into more than 200 types of cancer from the most common, such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate cancers, to rare types of tumours and children’s cancers, we support groundbreaking science that benefits everyone.
National Trust
We're a charity that looks after special places throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland for ever, for everyone. We look after coastline, forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, nature reserves, villages, historic houses, gardens, mills and pubs. We restore them, protect them and open them up to everyone. For the Trust, conservation has always gone hand-in-hand with public access.

Rob's Lakeland Trail challenge

Fundraiser:

On July 2nd 2016 I'll be attempting to run the Lakeland Trails 110km ultra marathon. It's a challenging route around the passes and trails of the Lake District fells and will be made all the more challenging for me by the fact that the furthest I've ever run before is a half marathon, five years ago.

I'm doing this in memory of my sister Ruth who taken away from us by cancer in early 2015. Before this I never really understood when people talked about  wanting to do something after something like this happened to them, but this feels like in some way I'm honouring my sister's memory. Hopefully I can also help the fight against this awful disease.

25% of anything I raise will go to the Fix the Fells partnership (via the National Trust, the lead partner), who look after the upland paths in the Lake District. Many fundraising events (including this one) use these paths and in my job as a National Trust ranger I've even helped build some of them, so I know how much they need our help.

If you'd like to follow my progress through the months of training, you can read my blog here: http://0-68.blogspot.co.uk/

I hope you think this challenge is one worthy of supporting by making a donation, no matter how small. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
