Winter Night Shelter

Charity

The 999 Club And Lady Florence Trust
The 999 Club is quite simply about offering comfort, respite, advice and guidance to the most isolated, excluded and lonely people in society. Our 2,500 users face a multiplicity of problems which can be any combination of being homeless, addicted, mentally-ill, an ex-offender, victims of crime and abuse, or elderly and the neglected and vulnerable children of our users. We operate 2 centres in 2 of the 4 most deprived neighbourhoods in the London Borough of Lewisham, namely Deptford and Downham. Lewisham is itself in the top 16% of most deprived boroughs in England. Our centres provide day time respite from life on the streets to the homeless. They are fed, given clothing and provided with a laundry service. Where possible we try to find accommodation in hostels and night shelters and assist in finding more permanent housing. We help them access benefits such as deposit schemes and, once they have a home, housing benefit. For our rough sleepers we provide sleeping bags and, if we cannot find them shelter, advice on the safest places to sleep. We open a temporary night shelter every January for the coldest 10 weeks until mid March.

Winter Night Shelter

We have opened a temporary winter night shelter from 1 December 2011 until mid March 2012. We provide beds for up to 25 homeless per night. Every evening our guests are given a delicious home-cooked meal, lovingly prepared by members of St Alfege's Church, Greenwich.

During their stay with us we work with other agencies to try and find our guests more permanent accommodation. We have been open a week and been full most nights. So far we have found 4 people a home

The shelter costs us £37,500 to run which works out at approximately £14 per guest per night for a bed, an evening meal and support. We are grateful for funding from the Albert Hunt Trust, Sir Jules Thorn Trust and the Sobell Foundation but still need to raise a whole lot more. Please help us to support a homeless person today.

Dont forget if you are a UK taxpayer you can gift aid your donation and we can claim an extra 25% to make your kindness stretch even further.

If you would like to be kept informed of our work please tick the box allowing charity marketing. We promise not to bombard you with information and we will not pass on your details to any other parties.

Thank you for helping a homeless person today.
