Young Labour Women

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in Chiswick in 1971. Since then we have grown to become the country’s largest single provider of specialist accommodation and support to women and children escaping domestic violence - a national “lifeline” for up to 80,000 women and children every year. Refuge provides safe, emergency accommodation through a growing network of refuges throughout the country and runs the Freephone 24-Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline in partnership with Women’s Aid. Refuge also offers services for children, individual and group counselling for abused women and community based outreach services. These include specialist services for minority ethnic communities and a growing team of independent advocates to support women through the court process. Refuge runs award winning media and advertising campaigns to raise public awareness of the issue and lobbies for better provision of services for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

Young Labour Women Marathon!

Young Labour Women

My page:

26 women. 26 miles. Raising money for Refuge.

Young Labour Women's Officer Charlotte is running the London Marathon for Refuge; to help raise money we're taking part in our own marathon challenge- 26 women, 26 miles, one week!

We're taking part because we want to see an end to domestic violence. Two women per week are killed in England & Wales by a current or former partner. Recent research by Refuge indicates that over half of young women (18-21) have experienced at least one violent incident from a boyfriend, husband, or partner. This cannot continue.

Our team come from Young Labour groups from right across the UK. Our miles will take place in a variety of different ways- running, swimming, cycling, walking, and more. Our goal is a shared one- a future without domestic violence.
