Thank you for visiting our team's fundraising page for the 2015 London Legal sponsored walk.
We are walking to raise funds for The Zacchaeus 2000 Trust (Z2K) and all funds raised through this page by LLST will be donated to the Trust with no deduction.
Our team members are: Lilian Lee, Joanna Kennedy, Catherine Chappell, Jamie Wallace, Sonya Clarke and more to come
Z2K is a London wide anti-poverty charity which provides advice and support to vulnerable families and individuals on low incomes who face debt or disputes with the welfare benefits system.
Although London is one of the richest cities in the world it is also home to more than 2.1 million people living in poverty. This means London has a poverty rate of 28%, seven percentage points higher than the rest of England.
Despite an apparent economic recovery the lives of low income Londoners are getting worse, not better. The rising price of food, energy and housing coupled with static wages and the government’s programme of Welfare Reform is pushing more people into poverty and making the lives of those already struggling with poverty worse.
In this context we have received a huge increase in demand for our services, supporting more than twice as many people in 2013 than we did in 2012. But at the same time the support available is shrinking. Therefore we need your support more than ever before.
In memory of Nick Goldberg
This year we will be walking in memory of our sadly departed Casework Manager, Nick Goldberg. Nick had been a member of Z2K’s team for the past eighteen months and helped hundreds of our most vulnerable clients in that time. He was a determined and persuasive advocate for each and every one of them, always doing everything he could to help clients improve their lives.
This message received from our client Elena on hearing the news of his death speaks to Nick’s dedication and the impact of Z2K’s work on the lives of vulnerable Londoners:
“I just wanted to highlight the important fact that I am helped by this amazing charity organisation… I never saw in my life such people totally free of selfishness and having genuine compassion and they are always going the extra mile to help clients find a way out of their troubles.
An example of that was Nick Goldberg… Without the help and the moral support and their amazing concrete expertise I would certainly by now be homeless or my medical condition so worsened that I would be hospitalised. People who have not taste big trials in there life, or being destitute will never understand the providential work that Z2K are providing. I feel proud of Z2K working with passion and determination against the policies that drive people into poverty and despair”
With your help we can support hundreds more people like Elena and do Nick’s memory proud. Please donate as generously as you are able. Many thanks for your support!
