Charity

The Born Free Foundation Limited
The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity, founded by Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers following their starring roles in the classic film Born Free. Today, led by their son Will Travers, Born Free takes action worldwide for wild animal welfare and compassionate conservation. From small beginnings, Born Free has grown into a global force for wildlife. Born Free believes wildlife belongs in the wild and works to phase out zoos and stop captive animal exploitation. Born Free rescues individuals from lives of misery in tiny cages and gives them lifetime care in spacious sanctuaries. Born Free protects threatened species including lions, elephants, tigers, gorillas, wolves, bears, marine turtles and much more in their natural habitat, working with local communities to help people and wildlife live together without conflict. Girls on the Run- Fiona & Tracy

Fundraisers:

Hi, thanks for visiting our page “Girls on the Run”.  Tracy & I have been running for about 3 years now, a daft thought one day has evolved into an addictive hobby and come rain or shine we are out pounding the pavements, some say a good excuse for a natter!   The more we run the more adventurous our challenges become and now we’ve lost our marbles and are attempting the ultimate challenge of a marathon !!

Not just one but two in seven months........we’ve just ran the Amsterdam Marathon in 5:06:42 and are now having a well deserved rest before we embark on training for London 2012.....

As London is so iconic and with it being an Olympic year (and Tracy is also going to be turning the big 40.....) we thought there's no better time to raise some funds for a charity that is very close to our heart.  Born Free Foundation are an amazing charity that work throughout the world to stop the suffering of animals in the wild and to protect threatened and endangered species.  Check out their website for the remarkable projects they are involved in.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.  We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.  We look forward to keeping you up to date with our training and hopefully achieving a new PB......

44 Days to go – OMG that is a scary thought !!!!!!!!!!!!

An update: I’m gearing up for London and training hard in all weathers, come on Spring....The BMF classes are really helping with my training and feel I am actually getting a little quicker.

Our team has suffered a set-back as Tracy is struggling with a serious injury, she has a stress fracture in her foot so has missed a whole month of training.  All praise though as Tracy is determined to continue and is cross training like mad to keep up her fitness.  “Quitting” is not an option and we are determined to achieve our goal of completing the London Marathon.

Your support is keeping us going and knowing that are efforts will raise funds for Born Free keeps us even more focused to succeed.  Roll on April 22nd..........................
