Supporting ‘The Bobby Robson Foundation’ and ‘Maggies Cancer Centre’, Newcastle

25th August to 3rd September 2017

This summer we will see Darren Purvis and Luke Westoe complete ‘The Andrew Grounsell Challenge’, held in memory of Andrew Grounsell, our friend, colleague, husband to Jo and father to Amy and Henry.

Andrew had fought bowel cancer for over two years, but sadly lost his fight to this awful disease in October 2016, at the young age of 54.  Andrew was amazing in the way he dealt with his illness and how he continued to carry on with life as normal, continuing to work and push himself right up until the end.  In his memory Darren and Luke propose to push themselves to the limit with the gruelling physical course of the AG Challenge.

The challenge will see Darren and Luke cycle over 1000 miles ascending over 45,000ft, and climb the UK’s highest 3 Peaks of Snowdon, Scarfell Pike and Ben Nevis on foot ascending a further combined 10,000ft over the 3 peaks.

THE COURSE

  • START – Newcastle
  • 2.5 day cycle south, taking us from England in to Wales.
  • Climb Snowdon (Peak 1).
  • 1.5 day cycle north out of Wales, in to England.
  • Climb ‘Scarfell Pike’ in the Lake District (Peak 2).
  • 2 day cycle north from England in to Scotland.
  • Climb ‘Ben Nevis’ (Peak 3).
  • 1 day cycle east to Edinburgh.
  • 1 day cycle south from Edinburgh via Bamburgh and back to Newcastle.

Anyone wishing to cycle a section/ join us for a day of the route or wishing to climb a peak is more than welcome to join us.
