The Sick Children's Trust
The Sick Children's Trust provides 'Home from Home' accommodation for the families of sick children whilst they receive vital medical treatment in hospital often far from home. Families are able to stay together close to their child and offer each other essential support during a difficult and distressing time.

We met at school and have now been friends for about 20 years.  We were both involved in a paediatric medical trial so can appreciate a little of what it is like to be in hospital as a child and how important it is to be surrounded by family when you are at your most vulnerable.

Our inspiration for running the half marathon for The Sick Children’s Trust comes from Alex’s parents long affiliation with the charity but also for the fact that Harry has just become an uncle for the first time and Alex has a close family friend who’s child has been and will continue to be in and out of hospital for all of his life.  This child had his first open heart surgery at a few days old and has had many long stays and further surgeries in hospital.  We can fully appreciate all of the benefits associated with keeping a family together at what can be a very difficult and scary times, not only for the patient but for their parents, siblings and grandparents.

The Sick Children’s Trust enables families to remain together by providing accommodation and support to the families of children being treated in hospital often miles away from home.  The accommodation is homely with private facilities, lounges and kitchens, kind and supportive staff and the opportunity to meet other families in similar situations. It takes away many of the day to day worries allowing families to focus  on the health and treatment of their child.
