Alice Lucas's fundraising page
Hi, thanks for visiting my page.
Encouraged by the build up to this year's Olympic Games and recent tragedies in the sporting world, I have set myself the challenge of running 2012 miles from May 1st, 2012, to December 20th, 2012 to raise funds and awareness for the British Heart Foundation.
My 2012 challenge equates to running 8.6 miles every day, which is approximately equal to running a marathon every three days. To put the distance into perspective, to run 2012 miles from home could take me to the border of Finland or to Istanbul. In Australia 2012 miles would take me from Cairns along the East Coast almost as far as Melbourne and in the US from Manhattan, NY to Grand Junction, CO.
As simple as my intentions may sound, combining the distance with a full time job, part time degree and something resembling a social life is where I have a feeling the challenge will kick in!
The British Heart Foundation have been working for fifty years to develop methods of prevention of heart failure and heart attacks - the UK's biggest killer. One of the most terrifying facts surrounding heart failure and heart attacks is the regularity within which seemingly healthy, fit people are affected.
Recent stories of those affected include the collapse of footballer Francice Muamba and tragic death of Norwegian swimmer Alexander Dale Oen, who had hopes of gold at this summer's Olympic Games. Breakthroughs in research at the British Heart Foundation have developed substantially over the course of the last fifty years, with scientists currently working on heart failure medicine to 'Mend Broken Hearts', giving hope to those suffering heart failure after a heart attack.
The British Heart Foundation need to spend £50million over the next few years in order to develop the cure for broken hearts and I would be so grateful if you could spare any change to donate to this worthy cause.
Thank you for reading my story!
Alice.
