CLIC Sargent helps children and young people with cancer and their families with the trauma of diagnosis, the often long journey through treatment and continues to support them afterwards. Every day 10 families are told that their child has cancer. Diagnosis often comes as a shock. Treatment usually starts straightaway and can last up to three years. CLIC Sargent is there with clinical, practical and emotional support, every step of the way.

In 2012 I am running 2,012 miles (equivalent to nearly 77 marathons) to raise money for CLIC Sargent, a charity supporting my cousin’s son Hamish who is fighting rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of children’s cancer. As part of this I will also be completing the London marathon in April, and possibly some more later in the year. I am confident I can reach this target but if not I will donate £1 for every mile I fall short by. There is a website set up so you can track my progress: http://www.awsmithson.com
Hamish and his family have relocated from Nairn to Glasgow so he can receive the very best treatment at the Schiehallion Ward, Royal Hospital for Sick Children. He has been so brave and strong throughout his early treatment and CLIC Sargent have been a great support.
CLIC Sargent has one simple aim: to ease the burden of childhood cancer on children, young people and their families. Ten children are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK and CLIC Sargent is the only charity that provides practical and emotional support throughout a child’s treatment and beyond. Right now CLIC Sargent is unable to help all of those families. Please support them so in the future they can be there for each and every one.
