Hey you,

First of all, a big thank you for taking the time to stop by my fundraising page! I'm participating in the Royal Parks Half Marathon this October in London as part of a charity. Whether or not you choose to sponsor me, I really appreciate the visit.

But let's be honest, a financial contribution - however small is even more appreciated. Mind is a mental health charity here, in the UK. They offer a range of resources from reliable information online to attentive listeners at the end of their helplines, and locally organised counselling and therapy services.

About me
A better mental health has also been my personal endeavour for many years now. As a teen I suffered with panic attacks and constant anxiety, and later with depression. I spent a long time telling myself and others that I was fine, afraid to admit that I needed more help than a pat in the back. Althouh my struggles emerged in competitive sports I'm glad that the mental strain I was under didn't turn me off from physical activity, since now I'm able to take on my second half-marathon and hopefully do something good not only for myself but others too.

But I'm not ... crazy?
It should be a no-brainer in 2016 that mental illness is not synonymous with crazy, insane, lunatic or some other derogative term of the sort. In fact, mental health problems touch every fourth of us each year. In addition to providing us with informational and communal support, Mind is also working to erase the stigma around mental health issues.
Struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, intrusive thoughts, loss, - and the list goes on, is exhausting enough without an extra layer of social shame. Asking for help is the most important step, and Mind is there to help you take it.

So if you struggle with a mental health problem - or know someone who does, please seek out help and don't suffer in silence.
