Raising Hope Foundation
A charity working with orphaned and vulnerable children in rural eastern Ghana, currently the town of Santrokofi. We seek to provide shelter, stability, access to health care and education and a hope for the future to children in the area. We are currently building an orphanage/ family centre to house 60 children, run a scholarship scheme supporting older youth in further education and are forming links with British schools to support local schools in Ghana.

On 29th May 2013 a team of 6 cyclists set off on a trip that would take them from Nordkapp, Norway, 450 miles deep in to the Arctic Circle, to Ghana, Africa, covering a total of 5000 miles in under 2.5 months.

4 core members will complete the whole ride, Ashley Middlewick, Tom Smith, Michelle Cassell and Chris Thomas. Mark Watson has ridden many of the stages with the team and Kinza Mason (Chairwoman of RHF) cycled from Nordkapp to Stockholm (1260 miles) and will rejoin the team in Ghana for the final stage up to the Orphanage in August.

So far the team have ridden through Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Gibraltar and are currently in Morocco. The boys are now taking on the additional challenge of cycling 1000 miles within the Sahara Desert to Dakhla, Western Sahara. After this point the countries become too dangerous and so the team will fly to Accra, Ghana.

Once in Ghana the team are hoping to be joined by one of RHFs scholarship students, Jones Adzayao, and together they will cycle the 180 miles to Santrokofi. The trip will culminate with the cyclists joining with other volunteers to run a 2 week summer school and assist with building projects in the schools and orphanage.
