Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We’ve saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and survival has doubled over the past 40 years. We fund research into more than 200 types of cancer from the most common, such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate cancers, to rare types of tumours and children’s cancers, we support groundbreaking science that benefits everyone.
Mind has been speaking out for better mental health for 60 years and is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. At Mind, we work for a better life for everyone with experience of mental or emotional distress.
War Child
Children don’t start wars. But their homes, schools, families and communities are torn apart by war. These are the very things children rely on for protection and the chance to build a life free from poverty. War Child is a small international charity that protects children from the brutal effects of war and its consequences. We currently work in Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq and Uganda.

From Backpack to Bike Rack

Alex Croker

My page:

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

I am an ordinary gap year graduate, an average athelete, swapping my backpack for a bike rack and attempting to cycle 4,000 miles across the USA in aid of charity, despite little cycling experience and travel-restricted training.

I will be riding for those who are not as fortunate as me to be able to travel. Cancer Research UK was chosen in honour of my grandpa who died of lung cancer in July 2006. MIND was chosen in the wake of Gary Speed's suicide, as they are raising awareness to the dangers of the stigmatised mental health issues. War Child was chosen after being approached by 5-year-old beggars in Cambodia, as they work hard reversing the impact of war on young children. Worthy causes I hope you agree.

The aim is to raise £1/mile. All I want from you is £1. If you want to donate more maybe you could have a whip round at your office, school or local community? I am sure there are 4,000 people out there willing to donate just one pound.

You can follow all my progress on my website; via twitter: @bpacktobikerack; or on Facebook

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
