Julia's House
Julia’s House supports Dorset and Wiltshire families with life-limited children, providing frequent respite care in our hospice in Corfe Mullen and in families' own homes. We are there year-round and in a crisis, offering emotional and practical support, emergency respite and end-of-life care. We support the whole family, not just the sick child, organising social activities for parents and siblings. In 2016 we will receive just 5% of our total annual funding from the government, making us one of the worst-funded hospices in the UK. Run for us and make a real difference to local families in need.

7 Continent Piping Challenge 2016

Fundraiser:
Irene Robinson

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/bagpipetheworld

I have self-funded this epic challenge and made it as big as I could because I wanted to raise as much as possible for two amazing charities that are close to my heart.

I have travelled 50,000 miles in 50 days across 7 continents playing my bagpipes in more than 12 iconic locations - NEW YORK - RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL - SAN FRANCISCO - ALCATRAZ - RIO DE JANIERO - CHRIST THE REDEEMER - COPACABANA BEACH - ANTARCTICA - PARADISE BAY and NEKO HARBOUR - AUCKLAND - THE SKYTOWER - SKYWALK  - SYDNEY HARBOUR - BONDI BEACH - HONG KONG - THE PEAK - TOKYO - THE SHIBUYA CROSSING - JOHANNESBURG - THE REGINA MUNDI CATHOLIC CHURCH IN SOWETO - MOSCOW - ST BASILS CATHEDRAL - LONDON - HMS BELFAST

Julia's House is a children's hospice caring for children with life-limiting illnesses from diagnosis to death. As a nurse I have worked in neuro-surgery and I have seen at first hand how brain conditions can devastate families. Your valuable and needed donations will pay for essential nursing care.

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity make every mile count to serving and former members and their families providing grants to other smaller charities as well, ensuring that every need is covered. I am proud to be a member of The Royal Navy Pipe Band Association.

There were times when the going got tough and these are some of the obstacles I overcame; I was on my knees suffering from sleep deprivation after travelling all night from Hong Kong to Johannesburg to play at the Regina Mundi Church in Soweto, the viral infection before Antartica which would have made it impossible for me to travel, my back going into spasm in Auckland...but I always knew I would complete the challenge and if we can raise as much as we can, I will have achieved everything that I set out to do.

I am the first person to travel all 7 continents playing the bagpipes in one trip. It has been a privilege to connect with pipers and drummers around the world and I felt incredibly humbled by their support.

I am determined to make this bold venture a total success and I appreciate every single donation of which 100% goes directly to the charities so that they can continue their vital work. Please continue to donate and be a part of this incredible journey with me.
