ACLT - African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust
ACLT is a charity committed to helping provide hope to patients living with blood cancer and other illnesses where a matched donor (stem cell, blood or organ) is required to save a life. Our work is driven by a belief that no one should die waiting for a donor to become available. Through our work, we improve odds of finding matches by registering potential donors on mass from all ethnicities, with a focus on donors from the African and Caribbean communities. This is due to an extreme shortage of African and Caribbean potential donors, signed to all three donor registries. ACLT also provide support and advice to patients and their families, from diagnosis, throughout treatment, recovery and sadly (in some cases), while supporting the patient and family during end of life, where treatments have not been successful.

On the 30th July 2017 Kirk Benjamin and Ben Castle, aka Benjamin and Benjamin HSG, will be donning their overly tight Lycra Mankinis to ride in 2017 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100. The ride will start in the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follow a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey and then back to the finish line on The Mall.

We’ll be riding for the ACLT charity this year which promotes a better future for people with leukaemia, other blood-related disorders and those in need of organ transplants, the charity was originally setup by Kirk's Auntie and Uncle in 1996 when his cousin Daniel had been suffering from Leukaemia for 3 years.

Remember any donation no matter how small is going to help the ALCT to continue their wonderful work of saving lives…

How your fundraising supports ACLT

ACLT currently receives no funding from Government or grant making bodies. As a small charity, ACLT relies on the generosity of the general public to meet costs and fund activities designed to motivate potential lifesavers to join the bone marrow, blood and organ donor registers. The funds you raise will help us:

  • to promote bone marrow, blood and organ donation
  • to support and assist people suffering from leukaemia, all bone marrow related illnesses such as aplastic anaemia, multiple myeloma, lymphoma as well as anyone in need of a organ transplant
  • to provide practical and home help, counselling, advice and moral support
  • to educate the public about the needs for better services which will assist all patients diagnosed as needing a donor
  • to campaign government and health providers for better services to improve outcomes for patients diagnosed with all blood cancers and in need of organ transplants
