St Michael's Hospice (incorporating The Freda Pearce Foundation)
From the very first day it opened, St Michael's Hospice made a commitment to provide quality, individualised care to patients who have progressive, life-limiting conditions and to offer support to their carers and families during the patient’s illness and in their bereavement. Over the course of time, services such as our day hospice, family support, complementary therapy, lymphoedema and out patient clinics have developed. It will cost more than £4 million to run the Hospice this year of which we get just 10% from statutory sources, the rest we have to raise ourselves! Support from community fundraisers is invaluable and very much appreciated; thank you so much for yours

28th November- James Bond Casino Night @ Left Bank,Hereford.......

Bethan was just 20 years old when she recieved, what proved to be, the most devastating news anyone could get.

On the 27th January 2012, Beth attended the city A and E department,  she received the best treatment but also received news of a huge mass growing in her left side. The very next day  Beth and her close family were given further details of a possible cancer growing from her left kidney or adrenal gland.

February 21st, our darling daughter was transferred to the amazing care team at the New Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Even though she had 4 world wide consultants plus 6 consultants, at the QE, the tumour proved impossible to treat. Beth was diagnosed with a Pheochromocytoma and at the time , was the only young person, with such a big tumour, in the world. Even then we never gave up hope and prepared for the fight of our lives.

Beth went through devastating and debilitating chemotherapy which had to be stopped in July as it was killing her faster than the  ever growing tumour. She was fortunate to receive funding for a trial drug which sadly had to be stopped because of extremely painful side effects.

By August Beth was suffering considerable pain and was then admitted to our local hospice, as she was too old to go into a childrens hospice, but, was too young , really, to be the older environment at St Michaels. However, their devoted care, support and understanding made the unbearable pain and suffering as  bearable as was possible. There, the 'around the clock' attention to Beth, and her family,by the hospice professionals, will never be forgotten.

All through, Beth fought the disease every minute of every day, with great dignity, courage and impeccable manners, until she lost her fight and our darling took her last breath, at 7am, on the 28th September 2012.

This fundraising event is to try and  raise £100,000 towards a dedicated young persons room, in Beths memory,in the new, state of the art, hospice that is due to be built at St Michaels in the near future.....

Thank you to all our family, friends  & businesses for your offers of support in reaching our goal. Please check out Beths Wish facebook page at:-

For every penny you donate, we will be forever grateful for the opportunity to support the hospice and therefore the people of Herefordshire, in particular any young person that finds themselves  to be in Beths position in the future xxxx

The potential for this to go country wide is a possibility, there are very few places for 18 to 25 year olds to receive care for terminal illnesses ; let Hereford start a 'wave of care' for the young people of this country.

Beth cared, we care and we are dedicated to make a start ;in Beths name we will achieve at least one room for a poorly young person at St Michaels Hospice. Please help us  achieve  'Beth's Wish' xxx

xxxxxxxx
