Charities

The Children's Trust
The Children’s Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury.
The Shakespeare Hospice
The Shakespeare Hospice, which is based in Stratford-upon-Avon, provides compassionate and professional care for members of our community whose lives are touched by serious illness. We offer comfort, information and choice to our patients and those who care for them, helping them through some of the most challenging times of their life. The Shakespeare Hospice does not charge for its services and is almost entirely voluntary funded, receiving less than 5% of its running costs from the NHS. Any support The Hospice receives from the public is therefore greatly appreciated and we are very grateful for the support we receive from anyone who kindly choose to raise money to fund our work.

MANY MANY thanks for visiting this page - hope that you like what you see and that you'll go on and sponsor me....

I completed the London Marathon on Sunday 26th April 2015 dressed as an ostrich (see official photo top left). The "plans" for such a beast have been lodged in my brain for 5 or 6 years so it was great to finally hatch the bird just in time. Other runners loved the ostrich get-up (very sorry if I got in your way a little) and the crowd went mad for it too. I was cheered every step of the way and it was this plus tea and mars bars (thanks to my son, Sam, and his girlfriend, Heidi) that got me over the finish line in 5hrs 50mins. I laid an egg (difficult for a male ostrich) at Cutty Sark (see BBC 5 Live interview) and also on the finish straight.

Guinness World Records presented me with a certificate for the "fastest marathon as a three-dimensional bird" (over 20-pounds) so that was very much the icing on the cake. Many thanks to Alex and the Guinnness team - they're a pleasure to deal with and I'm thrilled with the record.

I'm still raising money for two principal charities; The Children's Trust and the Shakespeare Hospice. If we exceed our sponsorship target then we will include other charities too.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
