Charities
BLESMA is the Charity that directly supports all our service men and women who lose limbs, the use of limbs or eyes or the sight of an eye in the service of our country and we are with them all whenever we are needed for the rest of their lives. Our work starts with rehabilitation proving that there is life after amputation. Our work is about amputee helping amputee, the fellowship of shared experience. Our work is about life long welfare support, about campaigning for what they deserve and about being there when old injuries come back to haunt. Our youngest Member is 18 and our oldest is 99. Truly we are BLESMA for life.
The Wolves Foundation began life as a community team for the Warrington Wolves RLFC prior to becoming a registered charity in August 2005. The Foundation aims to harness the power of sport to create and inspire communities and has three key areas of work: Health & Social Welfare: We look to enhance the quality of life by promoting healthy lifestyles to all ages, backgrounds and abilities within the community. We tackle key health issues for all, create wider activities for people with disabilities and hold inclusive activities for disadvantaged and harder to reach communities. Activities include: working with the homeless and young offenders by providing leadership courses in sports and dance. Running after school, holiday and curriculum time activities. Young People: We inspire our community by providing our young people with pathways to participate in positive activity. We work with partners to provide diversionary activities, create sporting and physical activities and engage with young people to strengthen their communities. Activities include: leadership courses, holiday activities, work experience opportunities. Education: We look to create an environment to support learning and to contribute to the improvement of attainment, confidence and employability. We host Sports Leadership Programmes, volunteering opportunities, work placements and are home to a modern and welcoming learning environment. Activities include: opportunities to learn about the media industry, leadership courses and informative assemblies. Each year the Foundation makes contact with over 20,000 people.

A(nother) Year of Living Strenuously III ;)
“I run because I can - When I get tired, I remember those who can’t run, and what they’d give to have this precious gift that I take for granted - Then, I run even harder - For I know they would do the same for me.”
As has now become a bit of a tradition....I am again undertaking a number of Endurance events over the next 12 months to raise money for two charities. Over the last couple of years I have raised money for the injured military fund at the QEHB, however in the last few months I have had the opportunity to see first hand the brilliant work done by a number of charities supporting our most seriously injured service men and women.
Also, I have seen the work done by a local charity that works closely in the community through the umbrella of sport in four key areas: health, education, young people and social welfare.
So the charities I am supporting this year are:
> BLESMA – (British Limbless Ex Service Men's Association) is the national charity for limbless serving and ex-service men and women, and their dependants and widows. It is the charity that directly supports all our service men and women who lose limbs, the use of limbs or eyes in the service of our country.
and
> WARRINGTON WOLVES CHARITABLE FOUNDATION - a local charity that looks to enhance the quality of life by promoting healthy lifestyles to all ages, backgrounds and abilities within the community and also provides young people with pathways to participate in positive activity. They work with partners to provide diversionary activities, create sporting and physical activities, and engage with young people to strengthen their communy.
My first couple of events are:
18/05 - Lanzarote Ironman (2.4m swim / 112m bike / 26m run) (www.lanzaroteironman.com).
21/06 - Indoor Ironman (2.4m row / 112m gym bike / 26m treadmill run) (at David Lloyd in Warrington).
With more events to be added!!
I appreciate any donations or support - no matter how small!
Thanks for taking the time to read.
