Diabetes UK is one of the largest patient organisations in Europe. We stand up for the interests of people with diabetes by campaigning for better standards of care. We are the largest funder in the UK of research into better treatments for diabetes and the search for a cure. We provide practical support and information and safety net services to help people manage their diabetes. For more information please visit our website:
The Woodland Trust
Founded in 1972, the Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. Thanks to the help of our members and supporters we now care for more than 1,000 woods, covering 20,000 hectares (50,000 acres) and all access to our woods is free. Ancient woodland supports more species than any other UK landscape, however it faces many threats, including developments, like new roads and airports expansions and, what we believe is its greatest threat, climate change. By acquiring woods and woodland sites, campaigning for better protection of woodland and working in partnership with others, we aim to protect and restore the UK’s precious woodland heritage to its full glory. We want to see: 1. No further loss of ancient woodland 2. The creation of new native woodland 3. The restoration and improvement of woodland biodiversity 4. An increase in people’s understanding and enjoyment of woods We have over 194,000 members UK-wide who share our concern. Their support is essential to help save woods under threat and enable us to undertake ambitious and important projects. You could help us continue this vital work by choosing us as your charity, helping us ensure that the special peace and beauty of our native woodland will still be here for the future. My page:

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Hi, I'm Mark Anthony I've spent nearly 17 years as a Cabbie, sometimes spending upto 16+ hours plus per day behind the wheel.

As you can imagine this hasn't been good for my health as in the last few years I turned to eating Fast Food for quickness. This has lead to me developing Diabetes and other ailments from eating Fast Food and lack of exercise.

I figured I had 2 options, either sit and do nothing or do something to help myself.

  1. I decided that I would take up walking as a gentle form of exercise.
  2. Healthy eating
  3. Doing something I enjoy (I love taking photos so this tied in well with the walking)
  4. Cut my working hours down.
  5. Also find a way to help encourage others to become healthier.

Secondly I also decided that I would complete a Challenge, this will be to complete 1,000 walks within 5 years. This works out at an average of 200 walks per year for the next 5 years.

The walks will consist of at least 10,000 steps or over which in my case works out at around 5 miles per walk or more.

I have chosen these charities because

  1. CANCER RESEARCH UK.......My dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and given 6 months to live, he was offered the chance of an operation which he took. This gave him an extra 8 years. The time we all got to spend with him during these years were very precious. Hopefully the work that is carried out through CANCER RESEARCH UK will help find a cure or better treatments. Most people are touched by this horrible disease at sometime in their lives, whether it be themselves or close friends and family. Lets help end the misery of this disease.
  2. DIABETES UK .........I have chosen this charity as I am now a Diabetic, my dad and Auntie also had it. I also know a lot of others with the condition. Again I'm sure most of you know of someone who is affected by this condition so please donate to help find a cure.
  3. WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR ..........I have chosen this one as they help create those special memories that for the parents of seriously ill children.
  4. WOODLAND TRUST.........I have chosen this one as I love walking out in Nature. The Woodland Trust helps to preserve this and plant new trees for future generations to enjoy. Without the great work these do our natural woods and forests would be a lot smaller and there would be less wildlife.
