Charity

Dorothy House
Dorothy House Hospice Care supports people with life-limiting illness, their families and carers in Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES) and parts of Wiltshire and Somerset. Covering an area of over 700sq miles with a population of 550,000 people, the majority of our care is delivered in the home and the community. This includes our Nurse Specialist teams working in partnership with GPs, a growing Hospice at Home Service and support through our Outreach Centres and 1,200 plus volunteers. We also provide inpatient care, pre-and post-bereavement support, rehabilitation programmes, complementary and creative therapies and more. We aim to equip individuals and communities with the knowledge and skills to respond to life-limiting illnesses with dignity, compassion and - above all - humanity. Our education and training programmes are at the forefront of this work. Dorothy House Hospice Care is an independent charity. All our services are provided free of charge and are only possible with the generous support of our local community: For every £1 we receive from the NHS, we have to raise £4.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

Dorothy House

As those of you who read my blog will know, Dot House is a vital part of my well-being and has helped me through the last nine months in various ways, from practical, clinical to emotional and I still have a Dot House nurse visiting me at home every two to three weeks, just to check how I'm managing and what other needs I have.  It might sound cliched but they really are angels without wings.

Day Patient Unit

Day patient units are run Monday to Friday and occasionally, we do an activity (like Centre Parcs in May, the Amercian Museum in July) where we get to meet the patients that come along on other days. Dot House is where I got my 'editor's' job! Along with Roz who is in charge of creative recreation there, I will be editing the newsletter for the Day Patient Units, allowing us all to keep up with each other. The range of people at the units is vast and not all patients have cancer.

The Midnight Walk

This Saturday 11 September at midnight I will be walking 8 km around Bath, no great hardship, it's a beautiful city.  I've been training to make sure I can do it and with the help of painkillers should be OK.  By the end of my training despite taking ibuprofen and paracetamol, along with Targinact I still have back ache, I'm hoping adrenelin and the fact I've been sponsored will push me through. The walk I did in June was five kilometres over rough but soft ground, this will be on roads and pavements so easier in some ways, but a harder, if more even surface.  I'll have to take it very easy.

Why Virgin Money Giving

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

Photo

The photo above was taken on my birthday this year when Mum, Dad, James and I went for dinner in Bath.  The headscarf's off now and my hair's coming back but I'm not quite up for photos yet!

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
