Barrett's Wessex
Known as Barrett's Wessex, we are a support and education charity. We support those affected by acid reflux, the potentially pre-cancerous condition, Barrett's Oesophagus and oesophageal cancer. We provide information via our website, newsletters, drop in meetings, an on-line forum and email and phone helplines. We work across the larger Wessex area raising awareness of the risks of ignoring frequent heartburn and raising funds for initiatives to prevent this fifth most common cancer that kills one person an hour in the UK. We support the national charity, Barrett's Oesophagus Campaign helping fund research and work within the consortium of charities: "Action Against Heartburn" attempting to raise awareness nationally.

I shall be cycling between Machu Picchu and the Amazon from 2nd October to 12th October raising funds for Barrett's Wessex.

In 2012, I cycled from Saigon to Angkor Wat. Having set a target then of £1000, I was delighted to receive sponsorship totalling £1400! So this time, I've decided to double my target

I'm self funding so every penny raised goes to the charity, plus, if you're a UK tax payer, Virgin Money Giving reclaim Gift Aid on our behalf making your donation worth an extra 25% to the charity.

This is a tougher challenge than the last one as it involves high altitude, hills and sleeping under canvas in 2-man tents with overnight temperatures dropping to freezing.

Please support me if you can, The charity is doing a lot to support patients with acid reflux problems.

Previously Barrett's Wessex bought a Radio Frequency Ablation machine for Southampton General Hospital that is currently saving lives by preventing patients from developing oesophageal cancer. Now they are raising funds for a "fine bore endoscope" which may be used in treatment where pre-cancerous strictures make the use of normal endoscopes impossible and detect pre-cancerous changes early enough to treat.
