The Picture is Empty
I will explain
The reason I am running the London Marathon this year is because on 13th October 2016 my life was rocked like it had never been before. A young 19 year old, Miranda, my sons girlfriend, sadly and totally unexpectedly took her own life. Miranda was an amazing young lady and had everything to look forward to. She was young, beautiful, intelligent, had a loving family and a devoted boyfriend, Zach, my Son. She should have been off to Bristol University to have the time of her life.
Miranda and Zach were like two peas in a pod, both had long blond hair, wore white t-shirts, jeans, and had a chilled fun outlook, a scene from the sixties. Miranda spent many fun days of the "Summer of 16" with us, even coming on holiday to the South of France. We all loved Miranda's company and hopefully she loved ours.
As I said Miranda had every thing, well nearly. She hid an illness, she suffered from depression and anxiety, we had no idea, why would we? She appeared so content but inside she struggled and life was difficult for her. Miranda received counselling but as the age of 19 ticked by the counselling finished and Miranda's life only lasted a further four and a half months. There is very limited help from the NHS and universities and these kids, and they are kids, are on their own, left to cope and take the largest step in life to university by themselves.
This is where you can come in. We all need to understand mental health problems and the research I have done shows we need to talk, that comes from both sides, no stigmas attached and understanding, tolerance and kindness goes a long way. This costs us nothing.
People with mental health issues need immediate, accessible help 24/7 which does come at a cost. A counselling session from a charity costs £30. If I could raise £50,000 we could offer well over one thousand six hundred sessions, that really would make a difference, possibly a life saving difference. We could possibly spare families like mine and Mirandas from the pain suicide leaves in its wake, and believe me the pain is unbearable, it seeps into all aspects of your life.
I want people to live because they want to live, not live because they want to die.
By donating you could possibly stop the empty photo above in the future from carrying a picture of yours or someone’s loved one, someone’s son, daughter, mother, father or friend.
Please help me raise awareness and money to help others. I never thought I could fill the photo but I can now! Its too late for me but not for you.
I would like to dedicate all my efforts I put into the London Marathon to Miranda, Miranda's family, Alun, Nikki and Emily and especially to my Son, Zach.
Thank you, I can't do this alone.
Please take a moment to think.
Your daughter or son may have come home this Christmas, Miranda's parents didn’t have that privalige, their Miranda won't be coming home.
