St Christopher's Hospice
St Christopher's is a registered charity and was founded in 1967 by Dame Cicely Saunders as the first modern hospice. All our specialist palliative care and family care services are free of charge. We care for people across Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, covering a population of 1.5m people It costs £19 million a year to deliver our services and we must raise nearly £13 million each year. We could not achieve what we achieve without the support of our community, and every donation counts. For example, £10 will pay for a haircut for a patient, £50 will pay for physiotherapy to help a patient retain their independence and improve their quality of life, £500 will help to fund our Patient Ambulance which brings people to the hospice for expert care and to take part in social and therapeutic activities.

Hello All!

I've been working as a physio for the past couple of months at St Christopher's Hospice in Lewisham, Greater London. It is the birthplace of palliative care as it is today, started by Dame Cicely Saunders, who was a pretty amazing woman. I've been touched by the ethos that the whole place runs on, and the loveliness of staff and patients I've been lucky enough to work with. The hospice cares for people with whole range of complex and long-term problems, offering support and services to them and their families. The focus is really on care, and I love that no-one is treated as a number, which is a precious thing given the stresses and strains on health care systems all over the place these days.

This Super Hero Run, on May 15th, is one of the many fundraising events St Christopher's hold throughout the year to allow them to continue the fantactic work they do. They are only partly funded by the NHS, and rely otherwise wholly on donations. I'll be dressing as who-knows-what and running through lovely Regent's Park (5km, but more if they'll let me- Super Hero on the loose!)

Through Virgin Money Giving, donations will be passed straight on to St Christopher's. I know some of you are on the other side of the world, but if you can spare the cost of a couple of weekly coffees, or a trip to the movies, I would feel so grateful.

Also, any suggestions as to who or what I should go as will be gladly taken on board! I'll provide piccies post-race!

Thanks so much. Love Claire and St Christopher's.
