Ironman for Dad

Nicholas Pocock

My page:

My name is Nick Pocock. I am the son of Clifford and Christine Pocock. My father passed away in December 2014. He supported me in all my sporting endeavours and has continued in that vane by helping to spearhead the founding of the Bucks Youth Cricket Trust.

One of my recent sporting obsessions is long distance triathlons. Starting in 2010, slowly building to my first Ironman race in France in 2012. Dad was joggin by my side along the Promenade D'Anglais as i slowly and painfully found the finishing chute. He continued his encouragement the next year in Henley. Jogging across the Henley Bridge speaking words of encouragement when all I wanted to do was stop the pain.

His passion for sport and encouraging it in young people across the country is well known, with particular focus on cricket. He coached myself and our cricket team at Marlow Park CC during my youth, steering us to an 8 a side final that i remember fondly, along with many other times when we took to the field at Higginson Park.

It is the combination of these memories that I have chosen to undertake the Ironman challenge again, but this time in his memory and with the sole purpose of bringing awareness and fundraising to the Bucks Youth Cricket Trust. Without fail, since it's inception, at any time when I would enquire as to whether he would like a donation in leiu of a gift or the like, he would always quickly state "Bucks Youth Cricket Trust". Those who knew him knew he was not a busy facebooker, however, invariably and periodically, he would post a link urging donations to the trust whenever he could.

Dad would not care what challenge was to be undertaken, as long as it benefited Bucks Youth Cricket Trust. Hopefully, this Ironman race in June 2015 will be an appropriate event to match the time and dedication that he gave to youth cricket across the county of Buckinghamshire.

The race will take place on June 28th in Couer D'Alene, Idaho, USA. Please give all that you can to this great cause. I will be training over the next 24 weeks and you may follow my progress here:

Thank you for all your help!
