We're a local charity based in Cambridge. We support children, young people and adults with learning disabilities in lots of different ways. Our community services and activities help people do the things they enjoy the most, make new friends, learn new skills and lead more independent lives. We also support parents and carers, providing them with information, advice on relevant issues and back up when they need a rest. Helen & Liz's big swim!
Hello
I met Helen last year when I started working with Cambridgeshire Mencap to produce their marketing materials. My colleague Darren ran the 2010 London Marathon on behalf of CM so now it's my turn for a challenge. Helen had already signed up for the (British Gas) Great East swim so I decided to join her – we both agreed to do the swim on behalf of Cambridgeshire Mencap as it would be another great opportunity to raise money for them. CM are a great local charity offering help and support to people (and families of people) with learning difficulties.
The Great East swim is basically a mile long swim in Alton Water near Ipswich, the event is on 19 June. It will be cold and probably a bit scary so please sponsor us for our efforts (just getting in a wetsuit has to be worth a few pounds!) – it's for such a great cause.
