Fleet Pond Society
Fleet Pond is Hampshire's largest freshwater lake. It measures 52 acres and is surrounded by reedbeds, marshes, wet and dry heathland and woodland. The Fleet Pond Society was founded in 1976 by local residents concerned at the deterioration of the pond and surrounding area. Their objectives were to preserve and maintain Fleet Pond and stimulate public interest and appreciation for the nature reserve

Well I did it!!  I completed 22 miles in an elapsed time of 9 hours including an hour in total of 1 hour rest and refreshment.

Many thanks to the Fleet Pond Society committee members, Vicki, Jim, Mandy, Cathy and Nick, Sharyn our appointed rep for Hart Council on our committee and enthusiastic supporters, Phill and Maddy, for their support in acting as escorts on sections of the walk.  Phill also supplied two specially designed hi-vis wastcoats for me and an escort to wear to publicise the walk.

Thank you to Kathy Spink and Sheila Brooks for opening the Rowhill Nature Reserve Centre specially early to provide a tea, biscuit and comfort stop.  Thank you Mandy for the sandwich lunch at Crookham Wharf and to Phill for the pint of bitter shandy at the Barley Mow, Dogmersfield..

A very special thank you to my wife Mavis for her support and patience over a long training period and for the excellent spread of savoury nibbles and hedgehog cake at the welcome home party helped in her usual very willing way by Barbara, wife of FPS President Peter Martin.  Many thanks to Nick for supplying the wine with which the welcome home party toasted my health.

They had all signed a "We are proud of you" card, a very encouraging gesture, and the Hart Countryside rangers gave me a congratulations card much apprecaited.

But really very special thanks are due to all those who generously sponsored me and showed confidence in my ability to meet the challenge.  Thank you all.

If you have not got around to sponsoring me, it is not too late, and you can now do it with confidence that I can do it.  BECAUSE i HAVE!!
