The Cure Parkinson's Trust
Help us to find a cure for Parkinson’s. The Cure Parkinson’s Trust was founded by people with Parkinson’s, with the sole aim of helping to find a cure for this degenerative neurological condition. Frequently considered as an old person’s disease, Parkinson’s can affect anyone at any time. The youngest person diagnosed is just nine years old, and many in their 20s and 30s are given this devastating diagnosis. Parkinson’s doesn’t kill, it imprisons, removing all control over natural movement, a life sentence for a young person with Parkinson’s. The Cure Parkinson’s Trust wants to reverse the condition. We have already made significant headway. Patient led, we are impatient to wrestle back control over our lives. We are engaging the whole Parkinson’s community, with scientists, with regulators, with industry and with policy makers because we believe Parkinson’s can be cured. No-one is more passionate about this than the people touched by this cruel disease. But we need everyone’s help. Join us, because together we can illuminate the issues and the research being undertaken to beat it and we are close.

Michael Peatchey's Cycle for a Cure

Fundraiser:

Dear Family, Friends and Business Associates,

On 20th June 2012 myself and others diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, had the privilege of seeing our friend David Greaves carry the Olympic Torch into Thirsk, North Yorkshire. David was nominated by Helen Mathews, coordinator at Cure Parkinson's Trust, in recognition of his contribution to fund raising and awareness of Parkinson's disease. David is the founder of Pedal For Parkinson's and has inspired all of us who have Parkinson's disease. Pedal for Parkinson's was founded 2008 with the sole aim of funding a cure for people with Parkinson's. More information can be found at www.pedalforparkinsons.co.uk.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's 2 years ago and I am humbled by the hard work and commitment of the team of guys at Pedal for Parkinson's. My own philosophy is 'Staying fit , keeping a sense of humour and remembering that life is for living' (as my consultant puts it!) After many years out of my beloved sport of cycling I have been encouraged by these guys to get on my bike again. David wanted 6 of us to complete a relay between Lands End and John O'Groats over 2.5 days in aid of The Cure Parkinson's Trust. This ride was to take place in August but sadly it has had to be postponed until 2013 due to safety of riders riding through the night.

Having started training again, and feeling the benefits, I have decided to complete a ride anyway and came up with the idea of a ride from Lands End to my shop in North London. This will be a total of 330 miles in 3 days starting on Sunday 26th August at Lands End and finishing early evening on Tuesday 28th August at M Peatchey Purveyor of Fine Foods, 25 The Grangeway, London, N21 2HD. There will be a celebration with Sponsors, family and friends as well as a representation from The Cure Parkinson's Trust to show awareness of living with Parkinson's. The evening will be hosted by my wife Doreen, my daughter Natalie and Alex my shop manager, without their love and support this event would not be possible. I would also like to thank all my staff and customers for their support and encouragement.

We have given this ride the title of:
'OUR OLYMPIC DREAM,
WE WILL FIND A CURE'

IN AID OF THE CURE PARKINSONS TRUST
http://www.cureparkinsons.org.uk/

My son-in-law Craig will be joining me on the ride (he's the fit one!) and my daughter Natalie will be providing back up throughout the event so I will be well looked after.
David is kindly giving me a page on the Pedal for Parkinson's website to promote the ride. Here you will also be able to read up on the fabulous work David and his team have achieved.

Donations for this event can be made via this page o
r you can also make donations via post or in person at my shop. We have now started the fund-raising campaign so please pass information on to all your family and friends, the more that know the better chance we have of making a positive contribution to this cause.

We are also looking for corporate sponsors, we already have one for our clothing. If you would like your company logo shown on a start/finish banner (to be displayed in Cornwall and North London) please message me via email on peatcheybutchers@gmail.com no later than 31st July. Your information will also be detailed on the Facebook and Twitter pages and displayed in my shop.

Information and regular updates can be found on the Facebook event page http://www.facebook.com/events/239435919492483/ and on Twitter @cycleforacure. Any comments or words of support would be appreciated, especially during the event.

Finally like most I too was not successful in getting tickets for The Olympics Games however I did get to hold the Olympic Torch after David!

Please let me know if any of you can get to my shop for the finish on Tuesday 28th August at 6.45pm, it would be fantastic to see you and if any one wants to join us in cycling the last few miles please let me know.

Kind regards to all

Michael
