Blue Ventures believes that with the right knowledge, developing coastal communities can live in harmony with their marine environments. Our research gives coastal communities the knowledge and skills they need to live sustainably. To achieve this we have a team of dedicated researchers and volunteers who study all aspects of the marine ecosystem. The results from our work help us to propose new ideas to benefit coastal communities everywhere.

Cyclone Haruna Response
Blue Ventures is appealing for your support in response to cyclone Haruna which hit the south west coast of Madagascar as a powerful category 2 storm on Friday 22nd February.
Our partner communities in the Velondriake area are struggling to access clean drinking water following the cyclone, wells have been contaminated by floodwater mixed with rubbish and human waste, and many people are suffering from diarrhoea. Malaria is also high risk because standing water is providing ideal breeding grounds for mosquitos, and people who are sleeping out in the open since their homes have been destroyed are particularly vulnerable.
In response to this critical situation, our community health team in Andavadoaka has quickly mobilised to disseminate vital health information and distribute water purifying solution, diarrhoea treatment kits and insecticide-treated mosquito nets through our network of community-based distributors.
Velondriake is extremely isolated and these remote communities have no way of accessing life-saving supplies in the short-term without our assistance. We are therefore urgently trying to raise at least £4,000 in order to purchase, transport and distribute more stocks of water purifying solution, diarrhoea treatment kits and insecticide-treated mosquito nets to communities in and around Velondriake, home to over 15,000 people.
We will also be working even harder to minimise the risk of any future natural disasters having such a devastating impact on our partner villages, so once the aim of this special appeal has been achieved, any surplus or unused funds will therefore be used for our charity's general aims, including to strengthen our ongoing Population-Health-Environment programme that supports the Velondriake communities to improve their health and thereby increase their resilience to natural disasters in the long-term.

Please note that we will be closing this special appeal on Friday 29th March.
