Charities

Hertfordshire Community Foundation
Hertfordshire Community Foundation exists to tackle need and deprivation in Hertfordshire. The Foundation was set up in 1988. It encourages philanthropy and offers a professional, flexible service to help donors, whether individuals, companies or trusts as well as public authorities and agencies, to achieve their charitable giving objectives We make grants to charities and voluntary groups, both new initiatives and existing projects, which aim to improve the quality of life for people living in Hertfordshire
The Stevenage Community Trust
Established in 1990, Stevenage Community Trust was formed to provide funding to voluntary and community groups in Stevenage and the surrounding villages, as well as to individuals in desperate need. The work of the Trust is only possible with the continuing support of local businesses and individuals through membership and donations. Our current patron members are Stevenage Borough Council and The Follett Trust, with over 50 other local businesses and community groups forming our standard membership. The Trust has helped thousands of people in the local community by providing grants ranging from £50 to £2,000. Over £750,000 has been distributed over the years to a wide range of beneficiaries including sports and arts clubs, Olympic hopefuls, groups for the blind and the deaf, toddler groups and after-school clubs, schools, Scouts and Guides, clubs for widows and the over 60’s, Women’s refuge, Age Concern, community centres, sheltered housing and emergency grants for individuals and families in need. What makes Stevenage Community Trust so unique is that funds are both raised and distributed at a local level. Even if you are unfamiliar with the name, most Stevenage residents will have, or know someone who has, benefited positively from the Trust. As a local foundation, it becomes evident and quite clear what can be given back to the community. Whilst there are so many other issues around the world, it is sometimes easy to overlook those closest or that don't receive the headlines from the evening news. But, all need a helping hand in the same way.

For those that have listened to my moans and groans over the last 7 years, you will know that completing in the London Marathon, was a box ticked in 2016, so to be able to take part in 2017 is fantastic.

As with anything, please offer what you can afford and try to relate to what this will be able to do in assisting the community. At ARCADIS and GSK we made a significant difference to the community in 2015/6 and are looking to support again in 2017.

Everything you give, makes the training a lot easier, particulalry on these dark, cold, I should mention cold again and dark nights! So a big thankyou!!

Looking forward to another finishers medal, but not necessarily mile 23, will also try and enjoy the sights a little more this time around!!
