We are Lauren and Eva, were both passionate about macaques and are both zookeepers at Drusillas park, East Sussex, working closely with our family group of 4 Sulawesi Black Crested Macaques. Our time spent with these animals has taught us an awful lot and we decided it was time to give back and so on the 5th August 2016 we will both be taking part in a skydive for the first time ever.

The dive will take us both out of our comfort zones and will challenge us mentally.

We are fundraising for Selamatkan Yaki, a project set up to save the Sulawesi Crested Black Macaques. An Old world primate that is classed as critically endangered due to many factors. Selamatkan yaki rely on donations and fundraisers to continue to the work they do out in Indonesia and so were hoping by raising funds so we can help them continue the work they do.

Selamatkan Yaki is a conservation programme that aims to protect yaki – the Sulawesi crested black macaques and their forest habitat.

North Sulawesi is home to an incredible diversity of plant and animal species, with one of the highest levels of endemism (species unique to the area) in the world. However, due to hunting, forest loss and the pet trade many of these unique species are under threat. One of the most threatened is the Sulawesi crested black macaque – known locally as yaki. Restricted to small forest fragments in the Northern tip of the island, these monkeys have experienced an estimated population decline of up to 90% in the last 30 years, and are now Critically
Endangered and in urgent need of protection.

Selamatkan Yaki is a project through the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust based at Paignton Zoo in the UK, comprising a strong collaboration of partners, with support and cooperation from key stakeholders. By focussing on protected area management, ecotourism, community development, education and awareness-raising we can work together to reduce the threats to the species. By protecting yaki, we also safeguard many other species, and the people that live alongside them.

Our project is still in its infancy, thus the development and long-term continuation of our conservation activities are dependent on small grants and donor money. Through your support we will be able to initiate upcoming projects addressing our objectives, in order to reduce the threats to this beautiful primate species.

A donation is quick and simple though this page, and will be very gratefully received. Please accept our most sincere thanks for your support. We hope you have a wonderful day, with a nice warm feeling of doing good. :)
