Charity

Bishop Simeon Trust
The Bishop Simeon Trust, established in the UK in 1989, exists to support through education and development projects those most disadvantaged South Africans who still suffer from the inequalities and injustices of apartheid and its legacy, or who are most severely affected by the HIV/AIDS. The charity supports a large amount of HIV/AIDS community projects in South Africa where the pandemic has reached extraordinary proportions. As the number of infected people grows and the illness spreads, the number of people left in its wake also increases. Part of the work of eradicating HIV/AIDS therefore involves providing support, care and education for those affected in order to minimise their vulnerability to the illness.

875 Miles in six days

Fundraiser:

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/EdCondry

The Bishop Simeon Trust emailed me last year to ask if I would take part in the 875 miles ride from Lands's End to John O'Groats at the end of June 2010. The Trust is an excellent charity, and includes the Archbishop of Canterbury amongst its patrons. Their work is described in the column below.  How could I refuse?

During the ride we will climb 40000 feet, and consume 9000kcals a day.

This year's adventure is not so far as the ride to Rome in 2007, but this one has to be completed in only 6 days. Serious training is in progress. I believe this is a really good cause. Your sponsorship is so valuable, and keeps me going when my body is pleading with me to be sensible and give up.

Everyone has been so generous so far that I have revised my target to £15 a mile - quite an incentive! That makes £13125.

Every penny donated goes to the Trust, as the costs of the ride are shared between those taking part and our commercial sponsors.

Thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charity. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

With great thanks,

Ed
