Great Ormond Street Hospital Childrens Charity
We need to raise about £100 million every year to help rebuild and refurbish Great Ormond Street Hospital, buy vital equipment, fund pioneering research and support important patient, family and staff support projects, to ensure every child at Great Ormond Street Hospital receives the world-class care they deserve.

Our charities

Everyone knows about Great Ormond Street and the amazing work they do. Put simply they are genuinely famous, and rightly so. This means that companies and people are often more easily persuaded to support them which we are thankful for. My son spent 6 months in there with a rare neurological condition and you will not find a bigger advocate of them and the service they provide than me. What few people know about are the smaller charities that work in conjunction with them to make the magic happen. Matthews Friends are one of those invisible foundations on which Great Ormond Street lean.

The charity promotes the use of a cutting edge treatment for children with severe forms fo Epilepsy and Cancer. The Ketogenic Diet reduces seizures, often from hundreds per day to zero where drugs have failed and can also be used to starve cancers reducing or eliminating the need for other more invasive treatments and powerful drugs which often have horrendous side effects. Imagine having a 3 year old and being told that there was a treatment that may eliminate the need of for Chemotherapy and all the pain, sickness and hair loss that goes with it..... That’s what these people are making happen.

This particular treatment was given to my while he was an inpatient in Great Ormond Street Hospital and it saved his life. He was having around 200 seizures a day and all drugs had failed. The Ketogenic diet reduced that to under 10 a day. Matthews friends also provide support for the children and their families if and when they are able to leave hospital, including a 24 hour 365 day a year telephone support line which is answered by a knowledgeable human being! Due to the size and character of Matthews Friends the staff know each and every one of the families they help on a first name basis, they are heavily invested in their work and genuinely care about the children they help save.

I have experienced their expertise, patience and dogged determination personally and can say that without fear of contradiction they are one of the most caring  and dedicated charities around.

MF and GOSH work hand in hand, and this is why we have chosen to support them both. Please donate now.
