Livability
Livability creates choices for disabled people and brings life to local communities. We offer a wide range of services to around 8,000 disabled people and their families, including residential care, supported living, education and accessible holidays. We also provide community organisations with the resources, advice and confidence to transform their neighbourhoods. Livability is a new charity, created by the merger of John Grooms and the Shaftesbury Society, two charities which have been hard at work among the UK's most marginalised people for over 160 years.

3 Peaks Challenge for the Sparkle Appeal

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Please support us as we attempt the National 3 Peaks Challenge to help raise funds for the Sparkle Appeal at Victoria School. www.sparkleappealdorset.org

Victoria Education Centre and Sports College (VEC) specialises in providing education, care and therapy for pupils aged 3-19 years with physical disabilities, predominantly cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.  Some of the children’s difficulties are due to accidents, severe illness, tumours or strokes. VEC is the only charitable specialist school in Dorset that offers education, therapy and nursing (within an educational setting) for children with complex disabilities.

The school has a long term reputation for excellence in sport and was awarded Specialist Sports College status in 2007 and in 2009 OFSTED called our sports “outstanding”.  Some of our students are currently training with Team GB and others represent Great Britain in International Events.  As London prepares to host the Paralympics in 2012 our dream is to see students competing as part of Team GB.

Hydrotherapy and therapy play a vital part in the students development and the current facilities no longer meet their needs.  The Sparkle Appeal aims to raise £5 million over the next 3-5 years to provide a new hydrotherapy pool and therapy centre comprising physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy suites.

The current hydrotherapy pool is over 25 years old and there are restricted changing facilities and poor hoisting provision for the students.  Hydrotherapy plays an essential part in the children’s therapy and is a proven method of treatment to relax, stretch and stimulate as well as restoring posture and balance.  The pool also serves disabled individuals across Dorset.  Community disabled groups, mother and toddler groups, disabled children and local people learning to swim all use the pool.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
